Memorial to the victims of 9-11

"Remember" By Mark Gudmundsen

Mark Gudmundsen started this painting on 9-12-01. He was sickened from the attacks and felt a deep personal need to paint a memorial to the victims of 9-11. He stopped painting the landscape paintings that were started. He did not get back to them for three months. The medium used in the painting was acrylic. It was painted on five separate canvas panels. Only black and white paint was used. Each panel is 24 inches by 36 inches. There are thousands of small figures painted in white to depict each idividual victim in the terrorist attack. They were painted white in reference to innocence. Each hand painted figure is unique representing the unique qualities that each victim had. The black background represents the black day that it was. All four flights are represented in this work as well as the Pentagon and Twin Towers. The work is not for sale. Gudmundsen does not want to profit from the victims of a terrorist attack. He is open to donating it to a worthy cause. It has been loaned out to various groups who have memorialized the victims. If he has it available, he hangs it in his gallery in September of each year.
